Here are some of our ideas:
Play your favourite songs
Moving is a lot more fun if your favourite tunes are playing in the background. Choose some upbeat music that will get you grooving and give you an energy boost.
Make sure you’re organised before the big day
The best way to reduce moving stress it to prepare as much as possible ahead of time. As soon as you know you’re moving you can start doing things such as de-cluttering or packing away items you won’t need day-to-day. When you know the date of your move you should start arranging for things like electricity, Internet and mail redirection at your new address so that you don’t end up moving and find that the electricity isn’t turned on yet.
Ask friends to help out
We’ve found that friends and family are always happy to lend a hand on moving day. Many hands make light work so the more people you have helping you the better. It will take some of the stress off of you and it will make it much easier to move larger items. It can be hard to ask for help, but most people enjoy lending a hand and if you’re moving far away then it might be one of the last chances you get to spend time together.
Plan your meals ahead of time (and include some treats)
The week before your move plan out each meal so that you only buy what you need. On the day of your move you might like to prepare something like sandwiches to share with all your helpers, or you might like to shout everyone to takeaway food or a nice lunch or dinner out when the moving is all done – after all you deserve a treat after a hard day’s work.
Don’t forget to rest before moving day
You’re going to need all the energy you can muster on moving day so try to get as much rest the night before as you can. On moving day get an early start on packing things away so that everything is ready for movers or friends when they turn up to help.
Moving can be stressful, but it’s best to try and go with the flow on moving day and not let things stress you out. There is a good chance that some things won’t go as planned, but don’t worry because things will work out in the end and soon you’ll be enjoying a wonderful new home.
