Melbournians all love living in this corner of the world and it’s great to hear that the rest of the world thinks we live in a great place too!
Melbourne has just taken out the top honour as the most “liveable” city in the world according to the latest global liveability survey from the Economist Intelligence Unit, bumping Vancouver from the top spot.
But Melbourne didn’t win the title for the reasons that we might think. The best parts of our city appear to be our transport infrastructure, education and healthcare which were all rated as “acceptable” which was the highest rating.
The thing that Melbourne is most renowned for however, our culture, was only given a “tolerable” rating, although this still beat the very cultured city of Vienna.
Overall though, Melbourne’s ratings earned a total score of 97.5 percent which is a near perfect score.
Other Australian cities didn’t fair so well with Sydney coming in at sixth place on the list, Perth and Adelaide tied at 8th and Brisbane came in at 21st place out of 140 cities.
Despite some of the complaints that local residents might have about Melbourne, we can’t be doing things too bad here and we should be proud that our city has so much to offer and that it really is one of the greatest cities in the world!
What do other Melbournians think about our new title? Do you agree that Melbourne is the most liveable city in the world?
