What should you look for in a new suburb?

houseLooking to buy a new home and can’t decide on location?

If you live in Greater Melbourne, there’s plenty of fantastic suburbs to choose from that will offer you wonderful properties and a lifestyle to match, so how do you narrow down you search?

Think about price

The first thing to think about when deciding where to buy a home is what you can afford.

While a lot of people want to live in prestigious neighbourhoods, it’s not always a financial possibility, but don’t be disheartened because there are plenty of fantastic suburbs with affordable properties for sale.

Check out the median prices for different areas and see if you can find anything in your price range. Keep in mind that the median price doesn’t tell the whole story of a suburb, but it can be a good indicator of general prices in the area and whether or not it could be an affordable suburb for you.

What will your lifestyle be like?

There’s a good chance that you’ll live in the property you plan to purchase for the next few years at the least, so make sure you factor in what your lifestyle will be like and if the area will have everything that suits your needs.

A few things to consider:

  • Proximity to friends and family
  • Access to schools, universities, hospitals and other amenities
  • Local community groups
  • The local environment and presence of trees
  • Access to beach, parks and recreational always
  • Walkways and bike paths
  • Access to shops and town centres
  • The local vibe

Don’t forget to factor in transport

If you need to travel to work everyday then this will likely have a big influence over where you decide to live. Ideally, the shorter you have to travel to work and back everyday, the better. This might not be as big of an issue if you can work from home a lot, but if you need to travel to work then think about how long it will take, whether services are regular or what the local traffic might be like.

Even if commuting isn’t an issue for you, it’s still worth looking at a suburb’s transport links and seeing if it’s easy to get around so you can have a break from the car every now and then.

Everybody will have different priorities in what they want in their suburb, so ultimately it comes down to preference, and for a lot of us we prefer to stay close to the areas we know best.

Here at Arbee Real Estate, we think that Bacchus Marsh and surrounds has a lot to offer its residents including lifestyle, a fantastic community, access to shops, amenities and recreational areas and affordable homes too.
