How to keep your property resolutions for 2016

Real EstateNow that we’ve started a new year, it’s time to start thinking about all of the goals we hope to achieve before 2017!

Moving house or buying somewhere new is a common New Year’s resolution, however since we know resolutions can be hard to stick to we thought we’d offer some advice on the first simple step you need to take to reach your goal.

Property resolution #1 – Selling your home

Have you outgrown your current home? Or maybe you just want a change of scenery? A new year is a great time to assess whether or not your current home suits all of your needs.

First step: For most people, the first step to selling their home is getting a property appraisal from their local real estate agent.  A property appraisal can help you get a better idea of what your home will sell for, which you can then use to work out what you might be able afford elsewhere.

Property resolution #2 – Buying a new home

Could 2016 be the year you finally find that home you’ve always dreamed about?

The property market is expected to cool down in 2016, making it much easier for buyers to break into the market.

First step: Buying a property is a big decision, so the first thing you need to do is work out what you can afford to spend. It’s best to talk to a lender or mortgage broker to discuss your finances and get preapproval so you’re ready to start home shopping. If you would like a recommendation on the best brokers to use then give us a call at Arbee Real Estate and we’d be happy to help.

Property resolution #3 – Improving the home you have

Could a few tweaks to your current home turn it into your dream home? While renovating is a great way to improve a property, and sometimes a much better option than moving, there is the risk of overcapitalising if your home improvements don’t suit the neighbourhood.

First step: If you’re not sure what renovations to do, think about what would add the most value.  Knowing what sells in the area might help, so chat to your Professional real estate agent to get an idea of what attracts buyers to homes in your neighbourhood.

Best of luck in 2016, and remember if you need any help making your property dreams a reality then don’t hesitate to get in touch with the team at Arbee Real Estate.
