How to decorate your home on a tight budget

22 Jun 2015 cathrynmcdonnell 0 Comment

Bedroom - MainWith renovation shows constantly showing us all of the wonderful things that can be done to our homes, it’s not surprising that a lot Bacchus Marsh homeowners are a little bit obsessed with interior design and trying to making our homes look as ‘Instagram-worthy’ as possible.

A lot of people are under the impression that home decorating is expensive, however if you’re a little bit creative and don’t mind the occasional DIY project then you don’t need to break the bank to change the look and feel of your home.

Here are some budget-friendly decorating ideas:

Try a new paint colour

One of the cheapest and easiest ways to update your home on a budget is to add a fresh coat of paint.

Paint has the power to uplift any room and bring it up to date with modern design trends. Ask your local paint supplier about current trends and what people are buying. If you’re about to sell consider going for neutral colours.

Install a new kit kitchen

If you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on a bespoke kitchen for your home then it’s worth considering a flat pack design.

Kit kitchens come in a range of styles and colours and the money you save can be spent on adding more interesting splashbacks, sinks or hardware.

Another way you can save money in the kitchen is by asking your kitchen retailer if they would be willing to sell you a kitchen off the showroom floor.

Ask for discounts

When it comes to most things, it can’t hurt to ask for a discount, particularly for home appliances.

You might also be able to make savings if you buy a number of items from the same store. For example, if you buy a fridge and dishwasher from the same store you should be able to negotiate a discount as well as a reduction in delivery fees.

Buy second-hand

You might be surprised by what you can find if you take the time to look around. Visit garage sales and salvage yards and browse websites like gumtree and ebay to find everything from barely-used dining sets to rare antiques. You do have to be a little picky, but you could find some great items that would be a fraction of the price to buy them new in stores.
