Budget-Friendly Kitchen Makeover Ideas

Modern KitchenKitchens are often referred to as the heart and soul of the home and so it’s no surprise that they’re often also the focal point of home renovations.

If you don’t have the funds to completely overhaul your kitchen then you can still update it with a few simple changes.

Cabinetry

There are plenty of ways you can update your cabinetry on a budget. If your cupboard doors are in good condition then they can be easily updated with a fresh coat of paint, particularly if you have timber doors. Laminate doors can be painted too but you need to make sure that you prepare the surface properly.

If the doors are in bad shape, of if they are vinyl wrap doors, then head to places like Bunnings or Ikea where you can find pre-made doors (odd-shaped doors may need to be custom-made elsewhere).

You may also like to look at changing your cupboard handles. There are endless options available and this can be an easy way to give your kitchen a modern update.

Bench tops

Bench tops can be one of the most expensive components of a kitchen, but replacing a bench top alone is still much cheaper than a complete kitchen makeover, and is probably what people will notice the most.

There are plenty of different bench top materials and colours you can choose from, with laminate generally being the cheapest and most practical option, though timber and stone look beautiful if you can afford it. Unless you have a straight kitchen, you will need to get your bench top cut to size.

Tapware

Tapware is often overlooked during a kitchen makeover but you’ll be surprised by the difference it can make to the look of your kitchen. Think practically when it comes to tapware – extended nozzles are a good idea as they can make it easier to clean larger dishes.

Splashbacks

If you want to add some colour into your home then there’s no better place then your kitchen’s splashback. The splashback can set the tone for your entire house so think carefully about how it will fit in. If you’re renovating an investment property then it’s probably best to keep the colours neutral so they won’t date as quickly.

Appliances

A modern kitchen can be achieved by adding the latest appliances. Think about functionality as well as style. There are plenty of great products on the market, just make sure that the appliances go together and that there is enough room for everything.
