Can renovations be done quickly?

tool-beltTelevisions shows like The Block may make the renovating process seem quick and easy but the reality is often very different.

Renovating your home takes time, patience and money, and if you want good results it is important not to rush into anything.

Whether you’re renovating one room or an entire house, renovating takes careful thought, planning and budgeting and it is important to take the time to source different quotes and find certified builders who will carry out the job to your satisfaction.

When you hire someone, be clear on the price and what it includes in regards to materials and services, and what timeframes you can expect the work to be completed in.

Keep in mind too that there is a possibility that unforeseen problems arise during the renovation (for example termites or structural issues) so your timeframes and budget could be stretched further than you intended. This is why it’s important to always budget for more than you initially expect to pay.

If you want to tackle a renovation project DIY-style, it is still worth talking to professional builders and experienced renovators for advice to ensure that you’re not taking on more than you can chew. A bad renovation job can cost a lot of time and money to fix (not to mention it can be dangerous), so if you haven’t renovated before it’s probably a good idea to invest in the services of a qualified tradesperson.

You can save money by doing some of the easier tasks yourself, such as painting or clearing out an area, and call in a tradie for more difficult tasks.

Overall renovating can be extremely rewarding and it can add substantial value to your home, but it is important to take your time, ask lots of questions and make the right decisions for your home.

Have you renovated before? Did you have any renovating stories to share with the rest of the Bacchus Marsh community?
