It’s great to see that so much money has been raised for a cause that many people may not have otherwise heard about, and that so many people have been so generous.
There are many other causes that need our attention though, including the Heart Foundation, which raises funds and carries our research to help prevent Australia’s single biggest killer – heart disease.
The Heart Foundation helps raise funds in a number of ways. During September they conduct the Big Heart Appeal and are encouraging people in the Bacchus Marsh community to help raise funds by going doorknocking, dressing red, taking on a challenge, holding a big heart brunch or simply by donating and spreading the word about the importance of heart health.
If you’ve been nominated to take part in the ice challenge you might even consider donating some funds towards the Heart Foundation.
Every little bit helps, a donation of just $5 could buy a researcher a flask for growing heart cells, or $40 could help a researcher isolate blood cells and study blood clots, which is key to treating heart attack and stroke.
