Improve your heart health for World Heart Day

HeartWith just 10 days to go until World Heart Day, our Professionals Arbee Real Estate team thought we’d share with you some facts and figures that we found quite interesting, in the hope that it might help our Bacchus Marsh community put in place preventative measures for Cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Unfortunately Cardiovascular disease is far more common than many people realise.  In fact, it is the number one cause of death, causing 17.3 million deaths a year.  While people often associate Cardiovascular disease with affluent middle-aged men, this is not always the case.  Cardiovascular disease can affect anybody, including women and children.  The good news is heart disease can often be prevented.

Some measures we can take to improve our health and reduce the risk of Cardiovascular disease are:

  • Eating more healthy foods, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, while cutting out fatty and processed foods.
  • Reducing stress by getting more sleep each night and taking time out for yourself to unwind.
  • Taking the stairs rather than the lift.
  • Playing sport, or playing games outside with the kids.
  • Walking or cycling to work rather than taking the car or public transport.
  • If you do take public transport, try getting of a stop early to increase your walking time.
  • Stop smoking.

Everyone, including policy makers, health care professionals, parents and employers, have the responsibility to play an encouraging and enabling role in heart-healthy living in our Bacchus Marsh community.  September 29 is World Heart Day.  It’s time to take action for you, your family and our Bacchus Marsh community to live better, longer and heart healthy lives.

What steps will you be putting in place to improve your heart health?
