There is still a lot of debate going on over what to do at the Bacchus Marsh Avenue of Honour – should a roundabout be put in or not?
It looks like it will still be some time before we hear answers, with an appeal set for the Heritage Victoria’s refusal to allow a roundabout to be held on June 3rd.
As many in the Bacchus Marsh community know, there has been a long debate over whether or not to remove eight elm trees at the Avenue of Honour to make way for a roundabout.
The problem is a difficult one. The Bacchus Marsh Avenue of Honour is very much a treasured place for the local community and nobody wants to see any harm come to the trees there. On the other hand though traffic conditions in that area do need to be improved and VicRoads believes that a roundabout at Woolpack Road is the best solution to the problem.
There have been rumours that VicRoads will propose to reduce the trees to be affected from eight to five, but these are just rumours for now.
What does the local community think on the issue? Do you want a roundabout?
