While Bacchus Marsh heats up a little in the summer time we are generally known as a cool area, which makes us a great spot to grow vegetables.
Bacchus Marsh is famous for our fruit and vegetables, and people travel all the way from Melbourne to sample our fresh produce. But as locals we can make our own delicious food by growing it in our very own back garden.
Different fruit and vegetables grow better at different times of the year though, so for the month of November I thought I’d provide a list of the best vegetable produce to grow in the backyard.
Best to Grow in November – Amaranth, Artichoke, Asparagus, Basil, Beans, Beetroot, Broccoli, Burdock, Cabbage, Capsicum, Carrots, Celeriac, Celery, Chicory, Chilli, Chives, Cucumber, Eggplant, Florence Fennel, Kohlrabi, Leeks, Lettuce, Luffa, Mangle-wurzal, Mustard Greens, Okra, Oregano, Parsley, Parsnip, Potatoes, Pumpkin, Radish, Rocket, Rockmelon, Salsify, Silverbeet, Squash, Sunflower, Sweet Corn, Tomatoes, Warrigal Greens, Watermelon and Zucchini.
The above might seem like a long list but you can just pick out the vegetables that appeal to you most, and visit your local garden nursery for some tips on how to best grow them and how long they will be in season for.
