A new development has just taken place in the Bacchus Marsh Avenue of Honour debate.
After applications were made for the Avenue of Honour to be put on the Victorian Heritage Register, it has been announced that it indeed will be.
Heritage Victoria has listed the Avenue of Honour as a place of historical, scientific and aesthetic significance to the state, as well as having social significance for our local area.
But does the Avenue of Honour’s new heritage status mean we don’t need to fear new roundabouts in its place anytime soon? Not exactly. There is no guarantee there will be no new road works or development occurring at the Avenue of Honour, but it may be harder for them to take place.
Alternatives to VicRoads' plans to remove nine elm trees and place a roundabout need to be seriously considered, because while we want better traffic conditions for the area, we don’t want to lose our Avenue of Honour.
